Eugene Tenant
The Legislative Session has Started! There are two bills to cap the rent!
I am writing to update you on our tenant organizing efforts in Eugene. We are excited to report that there are currently three bills at the state legislature that we support:
Unfortunately, there are also a few bills that we may want to oppose:
HB 2217 - Allows landlords to terminate month-to-month tenancies without cause
HB 2169 - Exempts all residential tenancies within 25 miles of the coast from rent caps
In addition to monitoring these bills, we also want to remind you of the upcoming hearing for Renter Protections Phase 2 at the City of Eugene. The public hearing will take place on February 21st at 5:30 PM. We encourage all tenants to attend and voice their support for strong renter protections. Join our Facebook event here.
We urge you to take action by:
Signing our petition to cap rent increases at 3% and encouraging others to do the same. The link to the petition is https://forms.gle/FX3Tu6mJyY19esGV9
2. Contacting your state representatives and urging them to support HB 2733, SB 611 and SB 684, and oppose HB 2171, HB 2217, SB 434, and HB 2169.
Writing letters to your Eugene City officials in support of renter protections.
Attending the public hearing on February 21st and speaking in support of Renter Protections Phase 2.
Spreading awareness among your community and encouraging others to take action as well.
Please let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything else we can do to support our tenant community.
